General

Before contacting us, please make sure to check out our FAQ below.

What does it cost to register?

Registration with FairestBnb is free of charge for hosts and volunteers. Registrations contribute to the operation of the FairestBnb platform and are meant for both to discover their possibilities.

Why does FairestBnb charge a service fee?

We only charge the volunteer a small service fee when a booking is made and confirmed by the host, thus when you actually use our services. We need this fee to cover the costs of providing, improving and upgrading our services in order for volunteers and hosts to connect to each other in an easy way. The amount of the service fee is € 18,- per booking (the use of third party payment service providers not included) and will be shown during the process.

Why does FairestBnb work like a booking site?

FairestBnb works like a booking site to make it clear and accessible to mobilise as many people as possible towards achieving their goals. Hosts can choose if they accept instant bookings or accept a booking after their approval. To benefit both, we expect that the host will approve the booking within 48 hours and we expect that the volunteer will finish the booking within 48 hours when it is accepted by the host.

Why is there no forum or review?

The truth is that it takes time and money to set this up and to keep it spam free. In the long term, we want to provide a way to communicate. In the meantime, we hope that you can get the best out of our platform as it is.

How to change my password?

You can change your password by going to the ‘login page’ (you must be logged out first). Then click on the link ‘Forgot password?’ and it takes you to the password reset page.

Does FairestBnb screen their users?

We strive to provide the right tools and services for the fairest transaction. We do check the host profiles before putting them online. We regularly check other profiles, but we facilitate contacts and do not act as an agent. So make sure you double check who you are talking to. We advise to video call beforehand, just to make sure the person on the other end is who they say they are.

What if it doesn't work the way I thought it would?

Sometimes for whatever reason an exchange might not work as expected, either for the host, the volunteer or both. We suggest you to discuss this with an open mind and respect each other’s opinions or cultural differences. Make the best of it together, look at the bright side and see it as a part of your (mental) journey. Both of you can decide to terminate the arrangement at any time. Always do this in a respectful, understanding and helpful way to prevent problems for each other.

How can I close my account?

You can close an account by contacting us at info@fairestbnb.com. We will deactivate your account but keep your account information to deter fraud. For example by ensuring that people who try to commit fraud will not be able to open a new account without getting detected by our server. However, if you close your account, your personally identifiable information will not be used by us for any further purposes, nor sold or shared with third parties, except as necessary to prevent fraud and assist law enforcement authorities, or as required by law. Please see our Data and Privacy Policy about the personal information we collect.

Volunteers

Can I become a volunteer?

Of course you can! FairestBnb wants to make the world a sharing community and invites everybody to join. You definitely have skills or help you can offer. Also, there might be some hosts that only want to enjoy your company. Just open your heart and care for everybody as we care for the world.

Why should I join FairestBnb?

Or why shouldn’t you? FairestBnb works with a booking system and it allows you to see the availability of an accommodation instantly. Registration is free, so you can find out if the platform works for you without there being any strings attached. Need more convincing? Please see our story on this page: Who we are.

What is expected of me as a volunteer?

Nothing less than be an open minded and a warm-hearted person :). Everybody can visit our platform to look around, search for places to travel to or for volunteering experiences. To make a booking, the host needs more information about you. So you need to register first and create a profile with a picture of you and some required information about yourself. FairestBnb works like a booking site in order to make it accessible and to mobilise as many people as possible towards achieving their goals. To benefit both, we expect that you will finish the booking within 48 hours after the host approved the booking.

Where can I find the contact details of the host?

After a booking is completed, you will find the contact details of the host on your dashboard, tab “Bookings”.

What does “Require confirmation” mean?

When the hosts want to double check the booking first, e.g. requested booking date or their guest, you can only make a booking request. After the host confirmed the booking, you can complete it and prepare your trip!

What does “Instant booking” mean?

Instant bookings allow volunteers that meet a host’s requirements to book immediately, instead of making a booking request and wait for the approval from the host.

Why is the booking request cancelled by the host?

There are several reasons and circumstances a booking request will be cancelled by the host. You can plan your trip again with another date or another host.
